Sophie Brooks is the main reason why the rivals all started. In 1953, when she was 15 she fell in love with a boy named, Keith Foster. She met him at a drive in and they instantly hit it off. That was until people found out about them. To Sophie it seemed as if Keith didn’t care about how much money she had. He just swept her off her feet. She always was happy with him. Then people started telling her all the dirty stuff he said. How she wasn’t good in bed. How she would do anything for sex. That when they first met she begged him for money and in return she would sleep with him. That broke Sophie’s heart, since he deflowered her. She loved him, and he talked to her like she was a whore. Soon that’s what everyone started calling her. A little cheap whore. From that day she knew she was going to be a hard one to crack now.

Present

Everyone around her can define Sophie as a bubbly, sweet person. She looks in the good of everyone, except the Fedges. To her, they could rot in hell. At times she would give everyone a hard time if they talked about Keith or the Fedges. She wanted nothing but to pretend she never met him. That he was never born. She gets comments from other guys on what they heard. And she isn’t afraid to slap someone for mistreating her. She is strong, and she won’t let anyone in to love her. Not even Joey, the boy who was all but sweet to her. She can’t stand love and just pretends it isn’t there.

Keith didn’t have any idea what made everyone so against the fact that he was with Sophie. He was 16 when he met her. To him, she was perfect. A flower blooming from the ground. But no one understood what he was talking about. No one except his best friend Julie Scott. Keith didn’t understand why everyone was so obsessed over money. He was probably the richest teen in town and yet he didn’t care about any of that. That was until he started to hear all about what Sophie was saying. How she just wanted him for his money. And that he was good for nothing. She could never love an annoying selfish bastard like him. That set him off the wall.

Present

Keith changed his ways. He started to act like a complete jerk to everyone. He only cared about money and what to spend it on. He pushed Julie away when she would try to talk to him. He felt on top of the world. Though he still had his sweet side hiding. Sometimes he would watch Sophie and how she acted. It angered him how she seemed to change. That maybe she was lying to him the whole time. Even if years went by he still thought of her every day. Her smile, her blush, and her laugh. But he tried not to focus on that. He needed to hate her. He needed to destroy everything that got in his way. He didn’t need her anymore. Or so he thought.

It’s 1957 and there are many things happening right now. The President is Dwight D. Eisenhower. A UFO case was brought up. People lived on different sides of towns by their wealth. In Wilson, Texas with a population of only 451 people lived two very different groups of people. The Silks and the Fedges. They are always on each others’ necks. All because of money and power. They think that one will stop fighting, but they never do. The fighting all started back in 1953. A Silk was talking to a Fedge and they started to date. People didn’t like the fact that one was rich and the other was poor. They felt as if they shouldn’t be together. Soon the couple was pulled apart by lies and betrayal. But as the years go by some really don’t see why they should hate one another. They just want to make a fool out of each other.
The Sliks, a group of non wealthy/’poor’ type of teenagers. To become a Silk you need to have to show you can really be trusted. The Silks were all like a family. They never would leave one another behind no matter what. They took care of each other and disagreed on many things. They never had a leader and everyone voice was always heard. This group or ‘gang’ was started by a guy named Joey Sisco in 1953. It was all because the girl he fell for was dating a rich kid. Jealousy is always a bad thing.
The next group is the Fedges, those are the rich teenagers. To become a Fedge you need to show them how wealthy you are. They don’t care about anyone but themselves. There is a leader and that leader is always the richest kid in town. Usually it is male. They don’t like it when people talk back to them. And they will do anything their money can buy them to show that they are better than anyone else. This group was started by Jack Foster the same time the Silks were made. He made it since his little brother decided to date a Silk.
The adults think this whole fighting is pointless. Though they fight with each other all the time. It’s all about money and who can show it the best. The gangs always find ways to crash parties, trash cars, and of course street race. But maybe some people take it too far by carrying knives around with them. They feel unsafe, and the fighting gets to their head. What if people start taking everything a little too far?
